Party heaven - or hell?

This place is totally dominated by people from abroad. Read: Erasmus students. Most rooms are reserved for them by the universities. Which is quite convenient for these foreigners, because the place is really close to uni and situated right next to a park.

The rooms are small, simple but clean and ok. Rent is cheap in danish terms. There is a bathroom with every room, and one large kitchen for each floor. There are also washing facilities, lawn and barbecue site and last not least: the party basement. This is where it gets interesting, or should we say terrible?

One thing you should know about Erasmus is that it focuses on the cultural experience. Hence, the exchangers' semester is not overly busy to say the least. So the party basement is in use on all kinds of nights. There is little to zero interest for students that are not in Esbjerg for a party semester, but who actually study, write their thesis, have a job to keep and so forth. In short: expect a loud, very loud, environment here on all weekdays and at all times of day, night and morning. Also expect unbelievable mess and dirt after those parties. And be prepared that if addressing this as a problem, well - YOU will be considered the problem.

Of course all this is against the house rules - yes, those do exist and technically, you agree to them when accepting to rent your room. They are however not enforced. In my time there, even the most severe noise makers and dirtbags did not get expelled from the place. In fact, nobody ever was, even after incidents with police involved. So do not expect the administration to be your ally - they simply don't know what to do about it and they show no interest in putting theit foot down for consequenses.

As a result, this place is probably perfect for you if you:

- have an easy semester and start the day late

- are a tough drinking party animal with the mindset of an 8th grader

- can sleep through massive noise

- don't have to keep a job

It is absolutely nerve-wrecking though if you:

- have a mature mindset

- pursue a serious educational effort and/or work

Judge for yourself - my own rating is based on the needs I had while living there, and having them disappointed.
